How to quit smoking while pregnant? The most successful method generally involves a combination of nicotine replacement therapy (drugs) and behavioral therapy. However, there is concern, nicotine replacement therapy may interfere with the fetus. Apparently, how to handle it very simple, with the exercise.

Researchers from the University of London, England, conducted two pilot studies, whether physical exercise can help pregnant women stop smoking. Both studies involved pregnant women who smoked at least one rod per day. In one study, the prospective mother doing exercises under supervision, one time a week for six weeks. In another study, the prospective mother doing two training sessions/ week for three weeks. Participants are encouraged to do additional exercises themselves, as well as receive advice and counseling to stop smoking and become more active.

The result, 25% of the 32 women who were involved in the study, quit smoking before giving birth. This amount is equal to non-pregnant smokers who smoked, who also use nicotine replacement. Participants also reported other benefits ie weight stable, self-image has improved and snacking habits become less.

Results of a study showed that babies of mothers who quit smoking during pregnancy, has a calmer temperament. This discovery gained more than 18,000 babies, their temperaments were measured at their 9-month-old, using a specific scale. The mothers were divided into groups: non-smokers, those who quit smoking during pregnancy, light smokers and heavy smokers (smoking ± 10 cigarettes per day).

Apparently, groups of expectant mothers who quit smoking have a baby most calmer, compared to other groups. Their babies also have the smallest possibility of unexpected behavior and become stressed, when faced with new situations. Conversely, groups of expectant mothers who smoked heavily, had the most finicky child; their positive mood are the worst. Research in animals show that nicotine as a ‘toxin behavior’; fussy temperament, often a forerunner of antisocial behavior.

Quitting smoking during pregnancy, more akin to the impulse to protect the baby rather than give up smoking in the long term. Many are back smoking after giving birth. This shows the ability to adapt in different circumstances, and the ability to plan and delayed gratification; the characteristics which do not seem to exist in those who still smoke while pregnant. So directly, the mothers who stopped smoking during pregnancy are more able to withstand the emotions, so that their babies are more calm.
